Terms of service

- Minimum age (Section 2). Recommendation: 18+, given the trauma/crisis context and the AI features. 16+ is also defensible if the founder prefers it.
- Governing law and jurisdiction (Section 11). Set to the operating entity's home state. Both lines need the actual state/country filled in.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or otherwise using Blue Bonsai (the “App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”), the Privacy Policy, and the Wellness & Medical Disclaimer. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Eligibility and age
You must be at least [FOUNDER DECISION — 18 recommended, 16 minimum] years old to use Blue Bonsai. By using the App you represent that you meet this requirement. If we learn that we have an account from someone below the minimum age, we will delete it.
The recommendation of 18+ reflects that Blue Bonsai addresses complex trauma material and uses AI-assisted reflections; adolescents in this territory deserve a clinician, not an app.
3. Your account
You are responsible for the security of the email address tied to your account and for any activity that occurs under it. Sign-in is by emailed one-time link; we never see or store a password. If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, please contact us.
4. Your content stays yours
Everything you write or log in Blue Bonsai — journal entries, reflections, check-ins, ratings, notes — belongs to you. We claim no ownership of and no license to your content beyond what is strictly necessary to operate the App for you (storing it, showing it back to you, processing it on your behalf when you ask us to, e.g. AI reflections).
You can export everything you've logged as a JSON file at any time, from Settings → Your data. You can also delete your account and all associated data at any time, from Settings → the Danger Zone. Deletion is permanent.
5. Acceptable use
Please use Blue Bonsai for its intended purpose: your own nervous-system regulation, reflection, and learning. You agree not to:
- Use the App to harm yourself or others, or to coordinate harm.
- Attempt to scrape, reverse-engineer, or copy the App's content or systems beyond the personal export feature.
- Impersonate another person, or create an account on behalf of someone else.
- Submit content that violates someone else's rights, including private information about identifiable people other than yourself.
- Use the App in any way that interferes with its operation for others (denial-of-service attempts, automated abuse of the AI endpoints, etc.).
6. Wellness & medical disclaimer
Blue Bonsai is a wellness and self-help companion. It is not medical or mental-health treatment, not a substitute for professional care, not a diagnostic tool, and not built for crisis intervention. Using the App does not create a clinician-patient or therapist-client relationship.

7. Service providers we use
To operate the App, we rely on a small set of service providers (e.g. Supabase for authentication and data storage; Anthropic for AI features; Vercel for hosting). These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and security commitments. The current set is described in more detail in our Privacy Policy.
8. Disclaimers of warranties
THE APP AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING (WITHOUT LIMITATION) IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any output of any AI feature will be accurate, complete, or appropriate to your situation. Your use of the App is at your own discretion and risk.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL BLUE BONSAI, ITS OPERATORS, OR ITS SERVICE PROVIDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES — ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE APP.
NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.
10. Termination
You can stop using Blue Bonsai at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate access to the App if you materially violate these Terms or use the App in a way that puts you or others at risk; we will use reasonable judgment and, where appropriate, give notice. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including the disclaimers, warranty and liability limitations, and governing law) will survive.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [FOUNDER DECISION — operating entity's state / country], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or your use of the App will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in [FOUNDER DECISION — same jurisdiction as above], and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective date” above and take reasonable steps to notify you (e.g. an in-app notice on next sign-in). Continued use of the App after a material update means you accept the updated Terms.
